What CoHub Gigs is for

CoHub Gigs is for a defined, one-off piece of work — not an ongoing retainer, and not a formal job listing. If you need something done once (a carpentry job, a design task, a day of event staffing, a marketing project), you post it as a Task; if you’re looking for that kind of work, you browse open Tasks and apply.

A Worker completes a Task as an independent contractor engaged directly by the Poster — not as an employee of the Poster or of CoHub. If a Task looks like it’s really describing an ongoing job rather than a defined piece of work, it shouldn’t be posted on CoHub Gigs — see Appropriate & inappropriate use.

Posting a task

Posting a Task is free. Describe the work, the location, and your budget, and submit it — every Task is reviewed before it appears in the public CoHub Gigs feed, the same approval step every Space listing goes through. Nothing is charged when you post; payment only ever comes into it once you hire someone.

Applying for a task

Once a Task is approved and open, a Worker can apply with a message and, if they want, a price different from the Task’s stated budget. You can apply to a given Task once. The Poster then decides, entirely at their discretion, whether to hire you, decline you, or hire no one at all.

Getting hired, and how payment is held

When a Poster hires a Worker, CoHub authorises payment of the agreed price on the Poster’s card — held, not charged yet. Hiring one applicant automatically declines any other pending applications on that Task. The moment you’re hired, a conversation thread opens between you and the Poster with an automatic welcome message, so you can sort out timing straight away.

Payment stays authorised — not captured — the whole time the work is in progress. Nothing is charged to the Poster and nothing is paid to the Worker until the Poster confirms the job is done.

Marking a task complete

When the Poster confirms the Task is complete, that’s the moment CoHub actually captures the payment. The Worker is then paid out the agreed price, minus CoHub’s fee, through Stripe — see Payments & connecting Stripe for how payouts work. Both sides then get a thank-you email with the option to leave each other an honest review.

Cancelling a task

A Poster can cancel a Task any time before it’s marked complete. If no one’s been hired yet, that’s free and nothing’s been charged. If a Worker has already been hired, cancelling releases the authorised payment — since it was only ever authorised, not captured, there’s nothing to refund, but the hired Worker is notified straight away. Unlike Spaces bookings, there’s no 48-hour minimum-notice rule here — a Task can be cancelled at any point up until it’s marked done.

Fees

CoHub takes a flat 15% fee from the Worker’s payout only — the Poster always pays exactly the agreed price, with nothing added on top. As a founding worker offer, the first 25 people hired on CoHub Gigs pay 0% fee on that first accepted gig.

If work is disputed

If a Poster isn’t satisfied with completed work, or a Worker wasn’t paid despite completing a Task as agreed, CoHub can help mediate but isn’t obliged to and isn’t responsible for resolving it. Keeping the conversation in the CoHub thread rather than moving it elsewhere gives you a clear record if you ever need one.
